Tear Duct Surgery above of the Page

Abnormal tearing of the eye (epiphora) can occur for reasons such as blockage of the tear drainage system (tear ducts), structural problems, or infection. This causes a disturbance in the natural drainage of tears into the nose. Stagnation of tears in the lacrimal sac increases the risk of infection. Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is a surgical procedure that restores the normal flow of tears through the tear ducts to the nose and cures excessive tearing. Surgery may be endoscopic or external. With the advancement of technology and instrumentation over the past 15 years, it is possible to perform DCR surgery without making an incision on the skin surface as well as through the nostril. DCR endoscopic surgery is an up-to-date operation that is performed under general anesthesia.
